Private Lesson Guide

Hello, singing fam! Whether you’re a current student of mine or considering starting private voice lessons, it’s good to know what to expect so that student and teacher are on the same page. My promise to you is that I will bring my full attention, energy and knowledge to every lesson. I promise to work with you to the best of my abilities to help you unlock your vocal potential, and provide you with resources to grow and practice. I’m here to support you on your singing journey, and am grateful that you trust me with your voice.

LESSON STRUCTURE

Each lesson will begin with a quick update on how you’re feeling vocally. Are you getting over a sickness? Struggling with allergies? Then we will dive right into exercises that will aim at helping you achieve your vocal goals and target weak areas in your voice to achieve balance and optimal function. We will end the lesson with song application and working through the songs you’ve brought to the lesson.

WHAT TO BRING

Please bring 3-5 songs that you love. I am happy to help you select songs in any genre, depending on your singing goals, but it’s very helpful for students to already have a handful of suggestions for us to work from. Anything from pop/contemporary, musical theater to classical styles. I want to help you sing what you love.

HOW TO PREPARE

Make sure you are properly hydrated. The voice is made up of so many delicate muscles that need proper hydration in order to function well. Don’t plan to just drink water during your lesson, drink lots of water before and after!

Use your lesson recording to practice the scales and exercises we worked on together (except if this is your first lesson!). I am working on providing a full exercise library for students so that you can refer to instructions and practice along with pre-made tracks during the week. Stay tuned!

In the days leading up to your lesson, notice any areas in your voice you’d like to work on with me. Think of any goals and aspirations you have in your singing so that we can work on these together. I’m here to guide you, so if you don’t have anything specific in mind on a particular week, that’s okay too.

RECORDING LESSONS

Please be prepared to record your lesson, whether just video or audio. You will use the recording to know what scales and exercises to practice throughout the week to strengthen your voice. If we’re on Zoom, you can ask me to record the call and share it with you.

BOOKING A LESSON

I use Acuity to schedule all lessons. Lessons must be booked and pre-paid online. In the Acuity scheduling block on my website, in the right hand corner you’ll see “Sign Up” and Log In” buttons. It’s best to create an account and be logged in when booking, especially if you’re a repeat student.

Please make sure Acuity Scheduling emails aren’t going to your junk box!

LESSON CANCELLATION + RESCHEDULING

Students are responsible for rescheduling or cancelling lessons through Acuity. There are buttons on the confirmation/reminder emails and texts for cancellation and rescheduling.

The timeframe to reschedule or cancel lessons is 48 Hours. Access to reschedule or cancel lessons are in the confirmation and reminder emails. It is your responsibility to make sure you are receiving these emails.

ALL reschedules MUST be conducted by you, the client. This is the purpose of the reminder text and email. If you miss the 48 hour cut off, the lesson will be forfeited.

Each client has ONE reschedule per month to use. If you reschedule more than once per month, that lesson will be cancelled and forfeited with an email explaining that it was because more than one lesson has been rescheduled that month.
